My recommendation: go for it...
After installing Windows 10 in 2015, I found iTunes could not handle internet sharing by phone tethering, and so rolled back to 8.1 ... until the free upgrade deadline loomed. I meant to upgrade sooner so I could give this advice while 10 was still free!

In July 2016 I installed the Windows 10 upgrade. I'm pretty happy with the look, functionality and ease of use. I only had two real issues after installing:

1. Its not a new phenomenon that Microsoft is trying to make its various incarnations of Windows ID more and more pervasive. They will tell you, with reason, that by tying everything together under one user account (much like the Apple ID) you will get seamless operation across apps and across all your devices, with easy syncing, minimal setup, and seamless app to app navigation.

If you are happy with that then great. It will allow you more options for logins too, with biometrics and PINs available.

My main issue was that I was lured into logging in to an app during setup, with the result that Windows 10 created a User Account on my laptop with my Microsoft password required at startup.  I didn't want that, so I backed out of it through User Account Control by selecting "Use Local Account" and going back to my simple name and local password, which can be blank.

2. Like many people I had an issue where the pointer was constantly flashing "busy" (little blue circle) at me. This is generally due to a background service from another vendor that is not updated to Windows 10 version, generally something from the hardware manufacturer. In my case it was the ASUS utility for on-screen gestures. I simply downloaded and installed the updated driver package for my model from the manufacturers website and all is fine.

You can tweak the look of the Start Menu and so on, so if you really loved the full-screen startup icons for example you can have them back.

Start Menu after Anniversary update (codenamed Redstone 1)

I've done the Anniversary update and its all fine.  The Start Menu is redesigned with the left column of icons added.
